What do you need to do before microneedling?
· Dr.pen
Before microneedling, you must discontinue retinoids, AHA/BHAs, and other exfoliating products, avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and blood-thinning medications, and keep your skin hydrated and clean. Arrive at your appointment with clean, makeup-free skin, and discuss any health conditions or prescription medications with your provider beforehand.

Skincare & Products
  • Stop harsh products:
Avoid retinoids (like Retin-A or retinol), glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and other exfoliating or astringent products for 3-7 days before your treatment.

  • Hydrate:
Drink plenty of water and use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer to keep your skin supple and better prepared for the treatment.

  • No makeup:
Arrive at your appointment with a clean face, free of makeup, lotion, or perfume.

Sun & Tanning
  • Limit sun exposure:
Avoid tanning beds and direct sun exposure for at least 72 hours to 2 weeks prior to your session.

  • Use sunscreen:
Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher daily, and reapply as needed.

  • No sunburn:
You cannot receive microneedling if you have a sunburn, as it makes skin sensitive and prone to negative reactions.

Medications & Supplements
  • Avoid blood thinners:
Do not take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or aspirin unless prescribed by your doctor.

  • Discuss medications:
Inform your provider about any health conditions, including a history of cold sores, and all medications or supplements you are taking.
